Overview

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy invites applications for two part-time (32 hours per week) temporary Lecturer of Marine Science positions in the Department of Science. These positions are expected to begin on or about August 11, 2014 and end on or before May 23, 2015. The Coast Guard Academy is a highly selective federal military college providing an undergraduate program and professional education for commissioning officers in the U.S. Coast Guard. The Academy offers B.S. degrees in eight majors and is located in New London, Connecticut. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Major Duties

The successful candidate will teach Atmospheric and Marine Science, Meteorology, and/or Physical Oceanography courses and perform other collateral duties as assigned. Teaching load will be 9–12 contact hours per semester.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a discipline related to Oceanography, Marine Science, or Meteorology. A Ph.D. is preferred. Undergraduate teaching experience, preferably full-time, is desired. Professional experience will also be considered. Excellent interpersonal, teaching, and communication skills are essential. Classroom experience teaching and mentoring diverse student populations, and/or experience promoting diversity initiatives—including efforts at creating communities of inclusion—is highly desirable.
