Lecturer – Studio Lessons

Location: Princeton, NJ

Salary Range or Pay Grade: $1,580.32 / enrolled student taking ten 1-hour lessons

Description

The Department of Music at Princeton University may have occasional openings for semester-long, non-tenure-track lecturer positions to teach in our studio lessons program, and accepts applications in advance in the event the occasion arises where such lecturers are needed. Exact appointments and duty time are subject to enrollment in the studio lessons program and may be for one or two semesters during the 2026-2027 academic year, with the potential for renewal depending on departmental need. Responsibilities include teaching private instrumental or vocal lessons to Princeton University students. Lecturers perform their own administrative and clerical support functions, including but not limited to coordinating teaching schedules, entering grades, responding to student inquiries, writing letters of recommendation, and more. Other opportunities may include adjudicating juries, evaluating arts supplements in support of University admissions processes, and coaching student soloists and ensembles. Successful candidates may also have the opportunity to teach music courses subject to departmental need and approval by the Department Chair and Office of the Dean of the Faculty.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience. They must also demonstrate effective studio teaching, ensemble skill-building, and knowledge of repertoire.
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a college or university setting, experience coaching soloists and ensembles, and teaching of master classes.

These positions are subject to the University's background check policy. The work location for these positions is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Term positions of one year or less are not eligible for sponsorship of an H‑1B visa requiring consular processing.
