Lecturer - Social Sciences Career Development - Social Sciences Division, College of Letters & Science

Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: T15. A reasonable full-time salary range for this position is $77,561–$153,069. Starting salary will be commensurate with highest degree, past college-level teaching experience, relevant industry experience and equity within the unit.

Percent time: 11% - 100%

Anticipated start: Fall semester, September 17th - December 4th (12 weeks); Spring semester, February 11th - April 29th (12 weeks). Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this recruitment does not guarantee that a position is available.

Review timeline: Applications are typically reviewed in June for fall course needs, and September for spring course needs.

Position duration: Depending on instructional assignments, lecturers may be appointed for a semester, or for the academic year. Position description

The Social Science Career Readiness Internship Program (SSCRIP) is a division-wide program for undergraduate social sciences majors who are interested in a summer internship to gain experience as they prepare to join the workforce.

With a focus on low-income, underserved, and first-generation students, SSCRIP participants are guaranteed funding for a paid internship upon completion of the required career readiness course.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

Teaching the 12-week 1-credit career readiness course held during Fall 2026.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), assignments, interacting with students outside of class time via email and/or a course web site.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent international degree is required at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • Prior experience teaching career development at the undergraduate level
  • Senior management or executive level professional experience in human resources or recruiting.
  • Leadership, coaching, management, and entrepreneurial skills
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience teaching first generation and low-income undergraduate students.
