The School of Nursing at California State University San Marcosaccepts applications on an on-going basis for our Pediatrics/OBpool of part-time lecturers. Clinical days, hours, and clinicalsites vary within San Diego County and Riverside County.
This is a Pediatrics/OB Pool Ad for the following courses:
- NURS 233: Nursing Care of ChildrenLaboratory
- NURS 333: Nursing Care of Children for ABSN StudentsLaboratory
- NURS 231: Nursing Care of the Childbearing FamilyLaboratory
- NURS 331: Nursing Care of the Childbearing FamilyLaboratory for ABSN Students
Applicants will use effective face-to-face instruction andassessment techniques to promote students’ successful achievementof course learning competencies
The clinical course instructor is responsible for preparing andteaching the clinical course with the general supervision of theClinical Course Coordinator. Duties include but are not limitedto:
- Teaching/Role Model
- Provide instruction, as directed by the Clinical CourseCoordinator and consistent with the syllabus, in a clear andengaging manner that is appropriate to the student experience andexpertise, to assist them in meeting course learning outcomes andcompleting required clinical hours.
- Provide hands‑on demonstration of nursing care as needed, andensure care is consistent with the clinical agency, accreditationstandards, and regulatory guidelines (California BRN, CCNE,TJC).
- Create topics of discussion and education information forpost‑conferences, in coordination with the Clinical CourseCoordinator, syllabus and corresponding didactic course.
- Always model professional nursing behavior andcommunication.
- Complete weekly evaluation ofstudent’s clinical practice and document both positive progressionand areas for improvement. Utilize SoN resources to ensure studentsuccess.
- Notify the Clinical Course Coordinator if a student is notprogressing as needed.
- Assist students to master course material by being availablethrough office hours and by helping them to access other School ofNursing resources including, but not limited to, web‑basedtechnology and open/practice laboratory sessions.
- Utilize computer and application‑based technologies as requiredto complete instructional and assessment duties. Includes using theassigned Cougar Course.
- Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordancewith the university and school requirements and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with the Clinical Course Coordinator,colleagues, laboratory staff, and/or clinical agency personnel toresolve issues or concerns; work effectively as part of the overallfaculty team demonstrating positive and collaborative interpersonalrelations to meet student needs.
- Attend faculty meetings.
- Complete all SoN orientation requirements and respondtoadministrative requests and in‑service requirements in a timelymanner.
- Clinical &/or Simulation Supervision
- Collaborate with clinical agency personnel to arrange siteorientations and clinical experiences, to ensure compliance withall agency and other regulatory requirements.
- Prepare clinical experiences at the assigned clinical siteprior to student arrival to facilitate student learning and respectclinical facility norms and operations.
- Provide students with appropriate learning experiences wheneverpossible; revise clinical assignments as needed, based on studentprogression.
- Supervise students in successfully completing courserequirements, including demonstrating, modeling, and assisting withthe full range of patient care situations.
- Collaborate with the Simulation team as directed duringstudents' simulation experience.
- Maintain professional practice knowledge base and skills neededto instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice for theassigned course.
- Other duties
- Complete annual performance evaluations per universityrequirements.
- Other duties may include assisting the SoN with the courseand/or program revision/development, assisting with research, andparticipating in committees as an active member of thefaculty.
