Course Description

MDIA 304: Global Media is an exploration of “globalization” as an historical— as well as a contested—process, and of cultural, social, technological economic, and political processes at work in “media globalization.” Case studies link discussions of specific forms (i.e., music, radio, video, journalism, internet, mobile phones, broadcast satellites, and points of origin) to old and new audiences. These case studies are contextualized in a consideration of specific communication processes associated with trade, war, community development, policy making and reform, and privatization/deregulation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard.
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
  • Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs.
  • Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary

Salary Commensurate With Degree Level And Experience.

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month.

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
