Candidates must have at least an M.A. in Islamic Studies or a related discipline, with specialization in Islamic thought, and prior college-level teaching experience. They should be able to demonstrate a command of major historical and contemporary questions and debates in Islam, as well as the major historical genres (such as hadith, tafsir, fiqh, kalam, falsafa, etc.) and contemporary disciplines in which those debates take place and are studied.
Advanced knowledge of Arabic is required and additional skills in related languages, such as Persian, Turkish, Malay, etc. is desirable.
