Position title: Unit 18 Temporary Lecturer

Salary range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $70,977-$107,361. The posted UC academic salary scales (2026-27 Academic Salary Scales | UCOP) set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the following table for the salary scale for this position (T15). “Off‑scale salaries”, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system‑wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position Description

Teach a diverse population of undergraduate students in the classroom and one‑on‑one settings in accordance with the course objectives. Create and maintain a respectful, open, and inclusive environment for learning and advise students on academic matters, while maintaining an active interest in advances in the subject area. Effectively mentor and train Teaching Assistants (TAs) for instructional support, if applicable. Utilize appropriate, relevant, and meaningful technology in teaching and learning.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field (ABDs will be considered), or equivalent combination of education and 5 years of related experience including at least 1 year of teaching.
Additional Qualifications (required at time of start)
  • Ph.D. must be awarded prior to the start of the teaching quarter in order for an offer of employment to be made.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Research experience, demonstrated record of mentorship, and teaching experience in both lecture and laboratory‑based settings.

  • Reflections on your teaching. For example, what data or information do you or have you collected to identify if instructional approaches are working and how have you reflected on this information? How has your teaching changed in response? 4) A description of your most recent teaching‑related professional development, and how that has influenced your practice.
  • Recent Teaching Evaluations – Teaching evaluations from up to four recent teaching experiences, including comprehensive set of comments from students. Evaluations should come from large class if available. (Please include a legend to help interpret the scale and rubric for evaluation.) If not available, upload a letter of reference on your teaching ability.
  • Sample Syllabi – At least one and up to three. Additional syllabi or other documents can be added through miscellaneous/additional documents (optional).
