Job description

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applicants for part-time, limited-term adjunct instructor positions for the UVA SCPS Accounting Certificate. This 100% online program primarily serves working adult learners preparing to sit for the CPA Exam.

The curriculum requires updates, including new course development and instruction related to the Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP) Discipline Section of the CPA Exam. We aim to align courses with the learning objectives in the AICPA's Uniform CPA Examination Blueprints. The successful candidate may teach and support the redesign or development of three TCP-related courses, requiring both online teaching and instructional design experience.

SCPS values faculty with relevant content expertise and recent professional experience that supports student achievement of program goals. Courses are offered in fall, spring, and summer, typically lasting 15 weeks in an online synchronous format, with class sizes ranging from 10-25 students. Live classes are scheduled in the evenings, with negotiable times.

Qualifications:
  1. Graduate-level instruction and online course design experience are required.
  2. A Master's or terminal degree is required; a terminal degree in the teaching area or a closely related field is preferred.
  3. Prior teaching experience, instructional design, adult learning principles, and familiarity with online teaching technology are highly desirable.
  4. An active CPA license is preferred but not mandatory.
  5. At least two years of relevant industry experience is preferred.
