The Humanities Department seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Humanities, with an emphasis on History. Beginning in August 2025, this position is a one-year appointment with a ten-month annual obligation, subject to additional renewal after the appointment period.

We are seeking candidates with a graduate degree in History or a closely related field. This course load will include undergraduate History courses (US History to 1865, US History since 1865, Early World History and Global Awareness, Later World History and Global Awareness, US Maritime History, Global Maritime History) and General Education Humanities classes.

Responsibilities For This Position Include

  • Teach undergraduate History courses (US History to 1865, US History since 1865, Early World History and Global Awareness, Later World History and Global Awareness), General Education Humanities classes
  • Maintain course documents on the college's learning management system (Brightspace, D2L) for in-person, online, and blended courses
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Maintain a dedicated commitment to teaching students and furthering their education as foremost priority
  • Play an active, collegial role in the department and in the growth of the Humanities programs and the college

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

The Humanities Department Offers a BS Degree In Maritime Studies And a MS Degree In Maritime And Naval Studies. We Are Seeking Candidates With

  • MA in History, Humanities, or a closely related field
  • Previous college teaching experience
  • Ability to teach in in-person and online course modalities

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Composition and History, Humanities, or a closely related field
  • Expertise and experience teaching Maritime History
  • Experience in course development and assessment

Additional Information

Classification/Salary Range: The Lecturer is a UUP non-tenure academic year appointment. The anticipated salary range is $55,000 - $65,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes a full benefits package in accordance with UUP contract. Special Notes: This is a full-time 10 months appointment that is subject to budget approval. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Review of application to commence immediately.
