Position Summary

The University of Maryland, College Park’s Department of Linguistics invites applications for a full‑time Lecturer, anticipated to start on August 9, 2026. The initial appointment is one year, renewable. The successful candidate will teach introductory linguistics and undergraduate courses in their area of specialization, with an expected teaching load of five courses per year (2–3), plus administrative and advising duties. The department offers opportunities to strengthen undergraduate and graduate programs and to engage with the research community on the human capacity for language. Areas of teaching need include phonology, syntax, and psycholinguistics.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in introductory linguistics and undergraduate courses in specialization area.
  • Maintain a teaching load of five courses per year (2–3).
  • Perform administrative and advising duties associated with the role.
Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in linguistics or a related field and demonstrated successful college‑level teaching.
  • Evidence of success in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Evidence of expertise in a linguistics area related to the human capacity for language.
  • Physical ability to deliver lectures in large classroom settings and to walk between campus buildings.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Preferred: Ability to incorporate diverse perspectives into teaching.
  • Best considered: candidate who has a PhD in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or allied fields, or expects to have one before the start date.
