Job summary

College Achieve Public Schools in Paterson, NJ is seeking a compassionate, organized School Counselor for a leave replacement role at one of our elementary schools. Work hours are 9:00am to 2:00pm, November 2026 through April 2026.

The counselor will support student well-being, academic success, and personal development with emphasis on equity and college/career readiness. The ideal candidate has a Master’s in school counseling, NJ School Counselor Certification, and experience with diverse

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in school counseling or related field.
• NJ School Counselor Certification (Standard or CE) required.
• Experience with diverse student populations and trauma-informed practices preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small group counseling addressing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
• Assist students in goal-setting, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Facilitate classroom guidance on conflict resolution, self-awareness, and college/career planning.
• Coordinate with families, teachers, and administration; monitor academic performance and develop intervention strategies.
• Identify students in crisis and provide referrals and follow-up; collaborate with outside mental health resources.

Education

Masters degree in school counseling, counseling, or related field

NJ School Counselor Certification (Standard or CE)

Experience with diverse student populations
