Job summary

Shady Hill School in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Leave Replacement 5th Grade Humanities Teacher (Gradehead) to join our Middle School team starting immediately. The position will cover a leave through the 2026-2027 school year, teaching Central Subject to 14-18 students and serving as homeroom teacher and advisor.

The role is full-time, in-person and salaried, with eligibility for benefits. Finalists may be asked to teach a demonstration lesson and provide a writing sample; salary ranges from

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• At least three years of middle school teaching in English language arts, social studies/history, or humanities.
• Experience with diverse learners and ability to differentiate instruction.
• Uses multicultural, anti-bias, antiracist teaching strategies reflecting cultural competence.
• Effective, timely and professional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach Central Subject to Grade 5 students (and other grades as assigned) and serve as homeroom teacher/advisor.
• Monitor social, emotional, and academic development of early adolescents.
• Design and implement curriculum, differentiate instruction, and assess students.
• Communicate with families and collaborate with colleagues to provide continuity of experience.
• Write progress reports, hold conferences, and engage in curriculum development.
• Share in faculty duties, attend meetings, and participate in events and supervision.
