Role Description

The Leave and Workers' Comp Specialist is a full-time, on-site role located in Austin, TX. This role manages employee leave programs, including FMLA, personal leave, and other district-approved leave options, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district policies. The specialist coordinates workers' compensation claims, maintains accurate records, tracks case progress, and serves as a liaison among employees, supervisors, medical providers, and insurance representatives. Daily responsibilities include processing leave and claim documentation, responding to employee inquiries, preparing reports, and supporting HR leadership with policy implementation and communication. The role also contributes to continuous improvement of leave and workers' compensation processes to support staff well-being and organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Experience with leave administration (e.g., FMLA, personal and medical leave) and workers' compensation case management, including documentation, tracking, and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of HR practices, relevant employment laws, and district or public sector policies related to leave and workplace injury claims.
• Proficiency with HR information systems and office software (such as spreadsheets, databases, and document management tools) for accurate data entry and reporting.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with employees, administrators, medical providers, and insurance contacts in a clear, professional manner.
• High level of attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving ability, with capacity to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.
• Prior experience in K-12 education, public administration, or a similar setting is preferred.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
