Job summary

The Salvation Army in New Philadelphia, OH is seeking a part-time youth program assistant to support the Learning Zone Director in preparing, implementing, and supervising activities for children. You will help create engaging lessons, supervise students, transport when needed, and assist with meals, attendance, and parent communication.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma, be willing to complete required trainings, and stay vigilant about safety and state standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required or equivalent.
• Prior tutoring or classroom experience preferred.
• Bilingual knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist Learning Zone Director in developing and implementing engaging lesson plans and activities for youth.
• Actively supervise and interact with children at all times.
• Facilitate student transport and field trips including driving a mini-bus/van if needed.
• Assist with daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms and spaces used by children.
• Support tutoring and completion of homework; assist in planning student learning plans (SLPs).
• Provide positive reinforcement and role modeling; communicate with parents and supervisor.

Overview

General Purpose of Job:

Assist Learning Zone Director in preparation, implementation, interaction, and supervision of children. Assist so that program runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

• Assist the director in developing and implementing dynamic and engaging lesson plans and activities for youth under your direction
• Actively supervise and interact with children at all times
• Facilitate the transportation of children from school and field trips, including the ability to drive a mini-bus and/or van
• Assist with daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms and other spaces used by children
• Help prep spaces, activities, meals/snack, etc.
• Monitor and discipline children behavior as needed
• Actively monitor outdoor play and activities
• Help tutor children in extra learning activities, as well as help in completion of homework
• Assist the director in planning and implementing tutoring SLP’s (student learning plans)
• Provide children with positive reinforcement and role modeling
• Attend required in-service training, as well as required trainings to meet state standards
• Assist with assessments and evaluations of children
• Assist in maintaining and monitoring attendance records
• Assist in maintaining and monitoring snack records and supplies
• Communicate well with parents, coworkers, and supervisor
• Other duties deemed necessary for the proper operation of the Learning Zone by the Learning Zone Director

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

2nd in command next to Learning Zone Director. When the director is not on premises or available, supervisory actions and decisions come next to the Lead Teacher. This includes co-worker overseeing and child monitoring.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma
• Prior tutoring/classroom experience preferred
• Bilingual knowledge a plus

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

• A clean, current driver’s license a must
• Background check required
• Trainings as needed for program (CPT, Communicable Disease, First Aid, Child Abuse, KeepSafe, food handling trainings, etc.)
