Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking a Learning Support Specialist at Manchester Elementary to assist in creating a positive learning environment and to provide targeted reading and mathematics support. The role works under a certified teacher to implement daily activities aligned with district practices.

Responsibilities include collaborating with teachers on curricular planning, offering accommodations, and monitoring student progress to determine intervention effectiveness in reading and math.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher required; completion of 60 credit hours toward a degree.
  • Passing score on Praxis Para Pro or WorkKeys or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an elementary school setting is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the classroom teacher, helps to maintain and oversee a positive learning environment.
  • Assists the teacher in implementing appropriate daily learning experiences aligned with the instructional mission.
  • Collaborates with the teacher to ensure informed decisions regarding curricular planning and classroom environment.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess an Associate's or higher degree;the completion of 60 credit hours of study towards a degree program at an accredited institution of higher education;or a passing score on the Praxis Para Pro or WorkKeys exams or an equivalent assessment. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in an elementary school setting is highly desired.

Rate of Pay: $14.88 Hr. - $23.80Hr
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of theclassroom teacher, helps to maintain and oversee a positive learning environment.
  • Assists the teacher in implementing appropriate daily learning experiences that are congruentwith the approved practices for the grade level and/or class compositionand aligned with the instructional mission of the school and district.
  • Collaborates with theteacher as appropriate to help ensure that informed decisions are maderegarding curricular planning, classroom environment issues, andinstructional practices.
  • Assists the teacher inproviding any unique and/or special accommodations required for students.
  • Helps the teacher promotea safe, secure, healthy learning environment.
  • Works with othersconsistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.
  • Provides individualized instruction to identified students and small groups who are experiencing difficulty in reading and mathematics.
  • Plans instructional activities that meet students' individual needs, interests, and abilities in reading and mathematics.
  • Advises teachers about students' progress throughout the course of intervention.
  • Helps to retrieve the performance data of students being served so teachers could analyze it to evaluate intervention effectiveness and determine progress.
  • Helps to maintain and oversee a positive learning environment under the direction of a properly-certified teacher.
  • Performs all other dutiesas assigned.
  • Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner
