The Middle School Learning Resources Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting students with learning differences and fostering inclusive academic practices across grades 6–8. In partnership with teachers, families, and student support colleagues, the coordinator ensures students develop as independent learners and self-advocates. This role involves both direct student support and collaboration with faculty to promote culturally responsive, research-based instructional strategies that support all learners.
Essential Functions
- Faculty Collaboration and Inclusive Practices
- Partner with teachers to design and implement classroom strategies that support diverse learning profiles.
- Lead professional development on differentiation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL); offer ongoing coaching and support.
- Provide feedback and consultation aligned with current educational research and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Collaborate with teachers in classrooms to support inclusive instruction and student success.
Student Support and Learning Plans
- Develop and manage Learning Support Plans (LSPs) with clearly defined accommodations and academic supports.
- Coordinate annual LSP review in collaboration with teachers, families, and outside professionals.
- Monitor implementation of accommodations through classroom observations, student check-ins, and teacher consultation.
- Conduct academic and executive functioning check-ins for students with LSPs; track progress and revise support plans as needed.
Family Partnership and Evaluations
- Interpret psychoeducational reports and communicate accommodation decisions clearly and empathetically to families.
- Refer families to outside evaluators and coordinate assessments (e.g., Vanderbilt, BASC-3, SPS evaluations).
- Serve as a primary point of contact for families regarding external tutoring and academic referrals.
- Cross-Divisional and Interdepartmental Coordination
- Partner with the Upper School Learning Resources Coordinators to ensure alignment across grade levels.
- Collaborate closely with the Counseling Department on holistic student support.
- Attend and contribute to Grade-Level Team Meetings (grades 6–8), MS Student Support Team, Morning Meetings, and departmental team meetings.
- Programs and Supervision
- Manage and oversee the Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) program for middle school students.
- Supervise study halls and tutorial attendance in the Academic Resource Center.
- Support advisors with academic check-in processes and executive function strategies.
- Respects the individuality of each student.
Admissions and Community Engagement
- Participate in the admissions process by reviewing files, attending events, and serving on panels.
- Represent Learning Resources in conversations with prospective families.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Success or the Division Director(s).
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance as a core and essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of The Northwest School, particularly around equity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Professional expertise in learning differences, executive functioning, differentiated instruction, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field, plus a minimum of four years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Ability to differentiate instruction, including working with students with language disorders and learning differences
- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience designing and delivering professional development preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree, license, and certification is preferred
- Assistive Technology background is a plus
Compensation
The salary range is $75,000 - $85,000 based on education and years of experience. This is an 11-month .92 FTE position eligible benefit. A retirement program matches up to 6% of an employee's salary after one year of service in a 403(b) plan.
