Job description

Description

The Instructional Aide supports the day-to-day operations of the Learning Lab, a program serving students in grades 1-12 who hold Educational Care Plans (ECP). Working under the direction of the Learning Lab Coordinator and the Learning Lab full-time instructor, the Instructional Aide assists with test administration, provides individualized and small-group student support, and helps maintain a structured, supportive environment where students can access accommodations and succeed academically. This role requires strict confidentiality regarding student records and educational plans, along with the professional judgment to maintain clear, consistent boundaries with students across a wide age range.

As a member of the school community, the Instructional Aide is expected to support the school's Christian mission and biblical worldview, model Christ-like character in interactions with students and staff, and help students experience the Learning Lab as a place of both academic support and genuine care.

Test Administration Support
  • Assist with the setup, monitoring, and administration of tests and assessments in accordance with students' educational care plan accommodations (e.g., extended time, separate setting, reduced distraction, use of assistive tools).
  • Follow standardized testing protocols and accommodation procedures precisely and consistently.
  • Monitor testing environments to ensure academic integrity and a distraction-free setting.
  • Communicate any testing concerns, irregularities, or accommodation issues promptly to the Coordinator or full-time instructor.
Student Support
  • Provide individualized and small-group academic support to students in grades 1-12 across a range of subjects, as directed by Learning Lab staff.
  • Reinforce instructional strategies and accommodations outlined in students' Educational Care Plans.
  • Help students build organizational, self-advocacy, and study skills appropriate to their age and needs.
  • Support students in transitioning between general education settings and the Learning Lab.
  • Monitor and document student progress, sharing observations with the Coordinator and full-time instructor.
Program & Classroom Support
  • Assist with preparing instructional materials, testing materials, and the physical learning environment.
  • Help maintain accurate records related to student attendance, accommodations used, and support provided, following school confidentiality protocols.
  • Support daily scheduling and logistics of the Learning Lab under the direction of the Coordinator.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Learning Lab Coordinator or full-time instructor.
Spiritual Life & Christian Character
  • Affirm and support the school's mission, statement of faith, and biblical philosophy of education.
  • Model Christ-like character, patience, and grace in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
  • Represent the school's faith commitments consistently, including participating in prayer, devotions, or chapel as appropriate to the role.
  • Encourage students' spiritual, social-emotional, and academic growth in a manner consistent with the school's values.
Confidentiality & Professional Boundaries
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student educational records, Educational Care Plans, disability-related information, and any other sensitive student information, in compliance with FERPA and school policy.
  • Discuss student information only with authorized staff and only as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Maintain clear, consistent, age-appropriate boundaries with students across a wide developmental range (grades 1-12).
  • Recognize and appropriately redirect situations involving inappropriate student disclosures, dependency, or boundary testing, escalating concerns to the Coordinator or full-time instructor as needed.
  • Model professional conduct and serve as a stable, trustworthy adult presence for students.
Requirements
Required
  • Personal, professed Christian faith and a lifestyle consistent with biblical principles.
  • Agreement with and willingness to sign the school's Statement of Faith and/or code of conduct.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with school-age children or youth (paid or volunteer).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures precisely, particularly around testing accommodations.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility to support students across multiple grade levels and subjects.
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience supporting students with disabilities, 504 plans, or IEPs.
  • Familiarity with testing accommodation procedures and assistive technology.
  • Experience in a school or educational support setting, particularly a Christian or faith-based school.
  • Active involvement in a local church.
  • A pastoral or church reference may be requested as part of the application process.
Background Requirements
  • Successful completion of a background check as required by school/district policy.
  • Compliance with mandated reporter training requirements.
  • Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primarily indoor school/classroom and testing environment.
  • Ability to move throughout classrooms and testing spaces to monitor students.
  • May require assisting students with materials, mobility, or equipment as needed.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive during extended testing sessions.
