A leading non-profit startup is seeking a product-savvy individual to innovate peer-to-peer tutoring with AI. You'll analyze data, lead pilots, and enhance tutor training systems, making a direct impact on education globally. Join a remote team dedicated to exploring human connection in learning.
Schoolhouse.world is a non-profit startup founded by Sal Khan that is scaling free, peer-to-peer tutoring to students across the world. Leveraging the power of teaching as a form of learning, we have already reached over 130K learners from 150+ countries, with plans to grow the platform to millions.
Our team has a mission to explore the important role of human connection in an educational landscape that’s being rapidly disrupted by AI, and discover new models where the two can work hand-in-hand.
Fully remote with flexible hours (with meetings in US Pacific Time)
Competitive salary with comprehensive benefits
Work-from-home stipend and professional development stipend
Semesterly retreats and monthly regional meetups (we’ve got folks all over with clusters in NYC, Seattle, and the Bay Area)
An opportunity to make direct impact on education at a global scale
We’re looking for a product-savvy, entrepreneurial individual to help us explore just how impactful and scalable peer-to-peer tutoring can be when we incorporate AI in creative, paradigm-shifting ways.
Specifically, you'll do this by researching and piloting new AI-based features that rapidly up-skill our tutors and directly augment the support they can give learners. You'll report to our Head of Foundations, but work cross-functionally with our Product and Programs teams on projects.
Build our organization’s understanding of tutoring quality
Analyze tutoring sessions and program data to uncover key drivers of student success.
Iterate on how we conceptualize and measure tutoring quality across the platform.
Lead AI-driven innovation
Serve as an in-house expert on prompt engineering and AI across our organization’s strategic projects.
Partner with external research teams to design and test interventions that combine AI tutoring with human coaching.
Lead experimental pilots to explore how AI can best support connection and learning—driving pilots from user research, to ideation, to low-code experiments with volunteers, to productization.
Shape our tutor training system
Build out the vision for our tutor training system: how can we empower our next 100k tutors to build even stronger connection with their learners and support them more effectively towards their goals?
Level up the impact of our volunteer coaches and peer reviewers by strengthening the human-in-the-loop systems and processes they take part in.
You have a deep belief in the power of human connection in learning, and a desire to explore how AI can enhance it.
Qualities
You are deeply curious about what factors impact student learning, especially in a social setting.
You’re a generalist who loves to tease apart complex questions. You’re excited to learn whatever it takes to accomplish your goals.
You’re a systems-thinker, curious to find solutions to scale ideas which may not have seemed possible to scale at first.
You’re eager to run experimental pilots from scratch: generating hypotheses, creating low-tech prototypes when it makes sense, working with tutors and learners to try out and iterate on ideas, and synthesizing learning.
You can develop and/or maintain a strong understanding of the latest AI models, and help the team level up our usage of AI.
You’re energized by working cross-functionally to solve ambiguous problems.
Skills & Experience
Experience with teaching and/or tutoring, even if informal.
Experience piloting new ideas from end-to-end, whether in a professional or personal project setting.
Experience leading the development of product features, leveraging qualitative and quantitative data to inform the roadmap.
A minimum of one year of experience working cross-functionally at a startup or tech-based nonprofit.
Nice to Have
Experience developing AI-centered product features.
Experience building scalable quality assurance systems.
Background in EdTech, learning experience design, or educational research.
Familiarity with Metabase, SQL, or other data dashboarding tools.
We are committed to building an inclusive and equitable platform for learners across the world and it’s important that our core team reflects these principles as well. We strongly encourage people from historically marginalized groups to apply. Even if you don’t meet all the criteria listed, we welcome your application—your unique experiences and perspectives might be just what we need.
