Job description

  • On-site at an Alpha campus in Miami, FL, or New York City, NY — relocation assistance available

  • $200,000/year

  • Full-time

When students struggle, most schools lower the bar. You raise it.

You know that young learners are capable of achieving more than typical classrooms demand, and you've led teams that demonstrate this through concrete results. You understand that high standards, accountability, and motivation transform lives far more effectively than another set of worksheets.

At Alpha, academic instruction occurs in just two morning hours using adaptive learning technology. That structure allows you to concentrate on what drives lasting impact: coaching students toward independent learning while cultivating the Guides who enable that growth. You will be accountable for outcomes within a K-3 cohort, relying on data, classroom observation, and targeted coaching to ensure each child loves learning, progresses at twice the typical rate, and builds strong life skills.

This role is neither an instructional coach position nor a principal's job. You won't be consumed by administrative meetings or paperwork. Instead, you'll spend time in classrooms, evaluating student and Guide performance, leading workshops on resilience, focus, communication, and accountability, and coaching children and adults toward tangible progress.

Your impact will extend beyond your own cohort. You'll capture what works, create playbooks that elevate standards school-wide, and contribute to how Alpha trains future Guides. If you're driven by developing people, scaling excellence, and proving that exceptional results are achievable when expectations remain high, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Use performance data, classroom observations, and targeted feedback to coach Guides and students toward measurable improvement.

  • Design and deliver dynamic workshops for K-3 students that build communication, resilience, focus, collaboration, accountability, and other essential life skills.

  • Conduct one-on-one and small-group coaching that links student motivation to academic progress and self-directed learning.

  • Develop and refine scalable coaching playbooks that elevate performance across the entire Guide team.

  • Train and mentor Guides while consistently modeling outstanding coaching and facilitation practices.

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Providing traditional classroom instruction or lecturing on academic topics; adaptive technology manages core academics.

  • Addressing behavioral challenges through punishment or reducing expectations when students face difficulties.

  • Operating from an office rather than engaging directly with students and Guides on a daily basis.

  • Managing campus operations, budgets, or parent outreach; your priority is people development and outcome improvement.

  • Adhering to traditional elementary school methods simply because \"that's the way it's always been done.\".

Learning Center Director Key Responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's three core promises for every K-3 student by developing high-performing Guides, highly motivated students, and a coaching culture that consistently delivers outstanding academic and life outcomes.

Basic Requirements

  • Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Miami, FL or New York City, NY; relocation assistance is available

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Organizational Leadership, Business, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience working with elementary-aged children (approximately ages 5-9).

  • Experience leading teams of five or more people, including hiring and performance management responsibilities.

  • Experience building, launching, or substantially expanding a program, school, team, or initiative rather than sustaining an existing operation.

  • Proven success leveraging data and measurable outcomes to enhance team or student performance.

  • Enthusiastic about challenging traditional education models and adopting a coaching-first methodology.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Experience leveraging dashboards, analytics, or performance metrics to support ongoing improvement.

  • Proven track record coaching adults to achieve measurable performance gains.

  • Background in competitive coaching, youth development, enrichment programs, camps, or other high-accountability settings.

  • Demonstrated public speaking and facilitation skills with young children.
