Job summary

The Cambridge Housing Authority is seeking a Learning Center Coordinator to provide after-school educational support and manage daily operations of the computer and homework centers. The role supports students from 6th grade through early post-secondary programs and aims to empower educational success and mobility.

The position runs seasonally with potential year-round work based on availability and performance, requiring 20 hours per week after school and some evenings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Background in education and adolescent development.
  • Strong behavioral management skills and ability to motivate students.
  • Strong teamwork and professionalism; interest in adolescent development is valued.
  • Knowledge of Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Amharic is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of homework center and computer lab to foster constructive learning environment.
  • Mentors and provides academic support to program participants.
  • Maintains attendance logs and updates student databases.
  • Reviews student documentation and curriculum material with site manager.
  • Makes reminder and recruitment calls to parents and students regularly.
  • Keeps track of supplies and orders materials as needed.
  • Assists with special events and upkeep of the site.
  • Maintains a neat and organized site.
  • Manages behavior to help students reach academic goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION TITLE: LEARNING CENTER COORDINATOR
GRADE: NONE
DEPARTMENT: The Work Force – Resident Services
REPORTS TO: Director of The Work Force
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide after-school educational support to the students enrolled in the Work Force andwill assist in managing the daily operation of the computer and homework centers. The Work Force is aeleven-year long, comprehensive after-school educational support and employment training program that provides holistic support to public housing students starting in the 6th grade and continuing through the first four-years of post-secondary programs. The mission of the Work Force is to empower adolescents living in Cambridge public housing to create their own pathways to educational success and economic mobility.

This is a seasonal position with an option for year round employment based on availability of positions and performance, operating during the school year from September until mid-June and in the summer from July through August. The incumbent will work approximately 20 hrs/week after school and early evenings and must be available Monday - Thursday 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm, Friday 2:00 pm - 6:00 PM (and occasional evening events). Benefit: accrued paid sick time.

All activities must support the Cambridge Housing Authority’s (“CHA” or “Authority”) strategic goals and objectives and produce results that accomplish the goals of the Leased Housing Department.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma required; Associates or bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Qualified applicants will possess a background in education and adolescent development and have demonstrated behavioral management skills. S/he will possess a strong ability to motivate and sustain participants' interest in learning, and to build strong relationships while maintaining important professional boundaries. Strong team-building skills, resourcefulness, a strong sense of professionalism and an interest in adolescent development are highly valued. Knowledge of Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Amharic is a plus.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS Outlook). Ability to learn other computer software programs may be required by assigned tasks.
