Job summary

The City of Carlsbad Learn Through Play Program is seeking a Part-Time Learn Through Play Instructor to lead classroom activities and guide Aides for children ages 3-5. The class is held at Kruger House Holiday Park, with schedule Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

This position offers a developmentally appropriate learning environment, opportunities to mentor aides, and hands-on activities across art, music, science, language and movement.

Qualifications

• Coursework in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred.
• One year or more of experience in an early childhood or preschool setting preferred.
• Experience planning or leading classroom activities is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all daily classroom activities.
• Design, plan, and implement structured lessons including art, music, science, language development, and movement.
• Guide, mentor, and direct Aides and classroom volunteers, ensuring proper support for all activities.
• Supervise and ensure safety during indoor classroom activities, outdoor play, and field trips.
• Establish and maintain a positive, engaging, and well-managed learning environment.
• Oversee classroom setup and cleanup, ensuring an organized and inviting learning space.
• Maintain accurate classroom records and assist with communication to families when appropriate.
• Support curriculum development and preparation of classroom materials.
• Model effective behavior management strategies and reinforce positive behaviors.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
