Job summary

Stamford Public Schools is launching LEAP Weekend Home Visitors to strengthen school-family relationships for students with prior absences. The role operates on weekends and requires visiting a minimum of five students per weekend, with reporting and collaboration with school staff.

Applicants should be SPS employees, willing to be trained in the LEAP model, and ideally bilingual. The project runs from November 2026 through June 2027, with schedule details and funding subject to Board approval.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with the LEAP Home Visit model or willingness to be trained.
• Currently employed by Stamford Public Schools.
• Experience engaging with families in a home setting is preferred.
• Bilingual abilities are desirable.
• Demonstrates passion for working with families and students.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

• Conduct weekend home visits with parents/guardians of disengaged students, in homes or community locations.
• Commit to visiting a minimum of 5 students per weekend.
• Make phone calls to schedule visits with parents/caretakers.
• Attend professional development and debrief meetings as needed.
• Complete required reporting for the project.
• Collaborate with school personnel to support student engagement.

General Statement

The Learner and Engagement Attendance Program/Home Visiting/Student Engagement Initiative (LEAP) have been proven to greatly enhance school/family communication and relationships. Proven student outcomes include better attendance and achievement. We are launching efforts to engage with a parent or guardian of students with prior absences (10-20%) for the purpose of strengthening the school-family relationship in a positive and relational manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct home visits either in the home or a location in the community with the parents/guardians of disengaged and disconnected students on weekends
• Must commit to visit a minimum of 5 students per weekend
• Conduct phone calls to schedule visits with parents or caretakers
• Attend Professional Development and debrief meetings (as needed)
• Complete necessary reporting for this project
• Work collaboratively with school personnel

Qualifications

• Knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in the LEAP Home Visit model
• Currently a SPS employee
• Previous experience engaging with families in a home-setting environment
• Bilingual preferable
• Passionate about working with families & students
• Demonstrates capacity to work cooperatively with others

Work Schedule

• November 2026 - June 2027
• Project Hours up to 8 hours per weekend.
