Value Driven Solutions (VDS) is seeking a skilled Lean Master to lead transformative Lean initiatives for our clients as an independent contractor. As a global leader in operations and supply chain consulting, VDS partners with private equity firms, manufacturers, and portfolio companies across a variety of manufacturing industries, including aerospace, food production, automotive, and more. 📍 Location: Fully Remote (U.S.-based) with 80% travel to client sites

💼 Position: Lean Master (1099 Independent Contractor)

🎯 Reports To: Director of Operational Excellence

Job Summary

As a Lean Master, you’ll work directly with VDS’s clients in various manufacturing industries, spearheading Lean transformation efforts to eliminate waste, boost efficiency, and embed a culture of continuous improvement. You’ll operate remotely with 80% travel to client sites, leading high-impact projects, mentoring client teams, and delivering measurable results for industries ranging from aerospace electronics to global food manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Lean Strategies: Identify inefficiencies and waste in client processes, designing and implementing tailored Lean strategies to optimize performance across diverse manufacturing sectors
  • Train and Mentor: Educate client teams on Lean principles, ensuring they can apply tools like Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and Kaizen in their specific industry context
  • Lead Improvement Projects: Drive complex Lean projects for clients, achieving significant outcomes such as cost reduction, improved OTD, and increased productivity in manufacturing environments
  • Facilitate and Coach: Lead Lean events and workshops at client sites, providing hands-on coaching to teams on their Lean journey, from automotive assembly lines to food production facilities
  • Develop Training Materials: Create consistent, high-quality training materials tailored to client needs, ensuring effective learning for Lean initiatives in varied manufacturing settings
  • Manage Project Pipelines: Oversee the Lean project pipeline for VDS clients, prioritizing and sequencing initiatives for maximum impact across industries
  • Sustain Lean Transformation: Initiate and sustain long-term Lean transformation for clients, embedding Lean practices into their organizational culture, whether in aerospace, food, or other manufacturing sectors

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Lean Master or Lean Sensei, with a proven track record in Lean transformations across manufacturing industries
  • Expertise in Lean methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM, Value Stream Mapping)
  • Strong facilitation and mentoring skills, with experience training diverse teams in manufacturing settings
  • Ability to lead complex projects independently in a remote setting with 80% travel to client sites
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience developing training materials and presenting to stakeholders in varied industries
  • Familiarity with private equity or diverse manufacturing environments (e.g., aerospace, automotive, food production) is a plus
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent certification preferred

Compensation And Structure

  • This is a 1099 independent contractor role with competitive project-based compensation

  • Contractors are responsible for taxes and insurance; all expenses are reimbursed
