Job summary

Oshkosh Vocational Tennessee is seeking a Lean Manufacturing Engineer to join our brand-new Murfreesboro facility. You will coordinate manufacturing methods and work with product design, materials, and equipment to improve efficiency and quality.

You will support senior engineers, manage small projects, and apply Lean and Six Sigma techniques while collaborating across departments. This onsite role reports to the Chief Engineer - Operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering or related field.
• 1–2 years of experience or more.
• Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools.
• Excel proficiency.
• Experience with ERP/MES/PLM systems.
• Familiarity with line balancing and cycle time analysis (MOST/MODAPTS).
• Led Kaizen events and small projects focused on improvements.
• CAD proficiency: Creo/Catia preferred; DraftSight preferred.
• Industrial controls and some robot programming.
• Knowledge of EAR-99 and ITAR classifications.

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, perform basic engineering calculations and investigations per Oshkosh standards.
• Support senior engineers in facility processes, designs, computation methods and reporting.
• Manage projects of limited complexity or multiple small projects.
• Provide technical assistance for prototype, pilot or production build.
• Analyze space, workflow and layouts for equipment and workspace efficiency.
• Review and process engineering information through change notices and continuous improvement requests.
• Review regulatory proposals to determine project impact.
• Review and recommend fixture and tooling design.

This role will be based onsite at our brand‑new facility in Murfreesboro and reporting to our Chief Engineer - Operations.

The Lean Manufacturing Engineer will coordinate manufacturing processes by developing, evaluating and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standard.

YOUR IMPACT:

• Support more senior engineers in the preparation of facility processes, designs, computation methods, and reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering or related field.
• One (1) - two (2) or more years of experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of equipment manufacturing industry or automobile industry.
• Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma tools.
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite; including a strong emphasis on Excel.
• Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Supported in change management and/or product data management
• Familiarity with line balancing and cycle time analysis. Use of MOST, MODAPTS, and calculations of value‑added processes.
• Strong background in leading Kaizen events and small projects focused on operational improvements.
• Understanding of ERP/MES/PLM systems
• Fluent in 2D/3D CAD software (Creo and Catia Preferred 3D) (Draft sight preferred 2D).
• Experience with industrial controls and some robot programming
• Strong dedication to the processes in which they will be the SME on and self‑motivated.
• Knowledge of EAR-99 and ITAR classifications.
