Job summary

Kovach Enclosure Systems is seeking an experienced Metal Leadman to guide the safe, high‑quality installation of architectural metal and exterior building-envelope systems. This hands‑on working‑lead role partners with the crew to direct daily tasks, coordinate work, monitor productivity, and ensure workmanship meets drawings, specs, schedules, safety requirements, and Kovach standards.

Job description

Kovach Enclosure Systems is seeking an experienced Metal Leadman to help lead the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of architectural metal and exterior building-envelope systems.

This is a hands-on working-lead position. The Metal Leadman works alongside the crew while providing daily direction, coordinating assigned work, monitoring productivity and workmanship, and helping ensure installation activities meet project drawings, specifications, schedules, safety requirements, and Kovach standards.

The Leadman serves as a primary technical resource for assigned crew members while supporting the Foreman's overall leadership of the project.

What You’ll Do

Installation and Technical Work

• Perform and lead the installation of architectural metal and exterior building-envelope systems.
• Install systems that may include metal wall panels, insulated metal panels, aluminum composite material panels, plate panels, louvers, sunshades, soffits, column covers, flashings, trims, closures, and related components.
• Read and interpret shop drawings, architectural drawings, specifications, installation details, and manufacturer instructions.
• Perform field layout and verify dimensions, elevations, benchmarks, control lines, and installation locations before work begins.
• Confirm that substrates, embeds, supports, and surrounding conditions are suitable for installation.
• Measure, cut, fit, assemble, fasten, and adjust metal components using appropriate tools and installation methods.
• Identify conflicts, missing information, dimensional discrepancies, and constructability concerns and promptly communicate them to the Foreman.
• Assist with troubleshooting installation problems and implementing approved solutions.
• Protect installed materials and completed work from damage.

Crew Leadership and Coordination

• Provide daily work direction to assigned installers and helpers.
• Communicate daily priorities, work areas, installation sequences, and expected production goals.
• Assign tasks based on employee skill level, project needs, and direction from the Foreman.
• Work alongside the crew and demonstrate proper installation techniques and work practices.
• Help train and develop less-experienced employees.
• Monitor crew productivity and help keep work progressing according to the project schedule.
• Coordinate the movement of personnel, materials, tools, and equipment within the assigned work area.
• Notify the Foreman of staffing, material, equipment, access, or sequencing issues that could affect production.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and respectful communication on the jobsite.

Quality

• Inspect work in progress for proper alignment, fit, fastening, tolerances, appearance, and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Confirm crew members are using the correct materials, fasteners, sealants, components, and installation methods.
• Identify and correct workmanship concerns before the crew moves to the next phase or work area.
• Assist with punch-list completion, repairs, and corrective work.
• Help prevent rework by verifying layout, dimensions, materials, and installation requirements before work begins.
• Report damaged, missing, incorrect, or nonconforming materials to the Foreman.

Safety

• Follow and reinforce all company, project, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
• Participate in pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and daily safety discussions.
• Confirm crew members understand the hazards and safety requirements associated with assigned work.
• Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment, fall protection, ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, power tools, and material-handling equipment.
• Immediately stop and report unsafe work practices or hazardous conditions.
• Report injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, and equipment concerns in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintain an orderly work area and promote good housekeeping practices.

Communication and Documentation

• Maintain regular communication with the Foreman regarding daily progress, crew performance, materials, equipment, quality, and safety.
• Assist with documenting completed quantities, labor hours, deliveries, delays, field conditions, and other requested information.
• Coordinate respectfully with other trades working in or near the assigned area.
• Participate in jobsite meetings, planning discussions, and inspections when requested.
• Ensure crew members understand changes to drawings, assignments, installation requirements, and project priorities.
• Represent Kovach professionally when interacting with customers, general contractors, inspectors, other trades, and project personnel.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of experience installing architectural metal, exterior wall panels, cladding, or comparable building-envelope systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead or provide work direction to a construction crew.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, architectural plans, specifications, installation details, and manufacturer instructions.
• Knowledge of field layout, measurements, elevations, installation sequencing, fastening methods, and construction tolerances.
• Ability to identify installation, material, and field-condition problems and communicate them clearly.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, lasers, levels, measuring devices, and other equipment used in architectural metal installation.
• Ability to work effectively in an active construction environment and coordinate with employees from different trades and experience levels.
• Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship.
• Reliable attendance and the ability to report to assigned jobsites as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five or more years of architectural metal or building-envelope installation experience.
• Previous experience as a Leadman, Crew Lead, Lead Installer, or similar working-lead position.
• Experience installing multiple types of architectural metal panel systems.
• Experience working on large commercial construction projects.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Aerial lift, forklift, rigging, crane-signaling, first-aid, or other applicable training.
• Experience using electronic drawings, mobile construction applications, or digital reporting tools.

Physical and Work Requirements

• This position is performed primarily at active commercial construction jobsites. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
