The University of Kansas is seeking a Student Programming Assistant for the Student Engagement Center in Lawrence. You will help plan and run leadership programs, workshops, and panels with a focus on developing student skills and community involvement.
Responsibilities include assisting with outreach at fairs and events, coordinating attendance, and handling front desk tasks. The role is hourly, requires weekday availability, and emphasizes collaboration with SEC staff.
The Student Engagement Center at the University of Kansas serves as a hub for student involvement, leadership development, impact programs and resources, and community programs. Through the Student Engagement Center, KU students deepen their connection to each other and KU by exploring communities and opportunities to thrive during their Jayhawk experience. Students will engage through registered student organizations, leadership experiences, and professional development workshops. The Center will impact students by providing for direct needs in the Campus Cupboard, Pregnant and Parenting Pantry, clothing closets, and the Emergency Aid Network. Jayhawks will build community as they connect with peers and engage in student support programs. The Student Engagement Center enhances existing programs by providing greater resources and deeper connections across Student Affairs.
Leadership Programs Student Assistants for the Student Engagement Center are responsible for strengthening the KU student experience through the implementation of personal and professional development workshops at the University of Kansas.
55% - Student Programming Assistance
Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of Student Leadership Programs, including workshops, retreats, roundtable discussions, and panels.
Conduct research on best practices to support the development of new programs.
Assist with program budget management.
Support assessment projects that measure student learning and development across Student Leadership Programs and initiatives.
30% - Student Outreach & Engagement
Serve as ambassador for the Student Engagement Center during Involvement Fairs, campus events and classroom visits by providing an overview of the office’s programs and services to students, staff, faculty and affiliates.
Provide tours of the Student Engagement Center during visit days to prospective students and their families.
Manage and track attendance to Student Engagement Center events.
20% - Administration
Completing administrative duties this includes but is not limited to overseeing the SMRC and Suite 400 front desk, answering routine questions, maintaining the building space, and completing tasks requested by the SEC staff.
Assisting in the creation of marketing materials including brochures and flyers regarding the office’s programs and services.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
