Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior and the ability to apply that knowledge when supporting student leaders, student organizations, and students with differing needs, experiences, and perspectives.
• Working knowledge of research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
• Working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing and advising to understand student needs, clarify concerns, provide accurate information, and help students identify appropriate options and next steps.
• Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate program improvements for student programs, workshops, events, and leadership-development initiatives.
• Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews.
• Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff and members of the community.

Responsibilities

• The APAT contributes to the development and execution of intentional student involvement and engagement programs, activities and events and will also advise student-led clubs and organizations.
• During the trainee period, the APAT is expected to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function under general supervision at the SSP IB working level.
• The incumbent assists through clearly defined efforts to deliver integrated support services and programming aimed at improving students’ academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience.
