Job summary

Blue Bottle Coffee is seeking a Leader in Training to guide teammates, maintain cafe standards, and drive hospitality excellence. You will step in for the Cafe Leader as needed, coaching staff and ensuring smooth operations across shifts.

The role emphasizes customer experience, product knowledge, and collaboration with leadership on scheduling, inventory, and business plans. A passion for coffee and sustainability aligns with our values.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years in a leadership role or leading a team; coffee/food/beverage preference.
• Completed Blue Bottle Academy Barista training and validation or will complete within 90 days post-hire.
• Existing Food Safety Certification required for the state and role, or will obtain within 30 days post-hire.

Responsibilities

• Assume full accountability for cafe operations in the absence of the Cafe Leader.
• Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and continuous learning; coach and mentor team members.
• Recruitment and performance management with feedback and recognition.
• Optimize staffing and shift management to deliver exemplary hospitality and quality beverage/food prep.
• Enhance guest experience through engagement, product education, and handling feedback.
• Collaborate with the Cafe Leader on business analysis, planning, sales, restocking, and scheduling.
• Ensure accurate accounting of transactions, maintain inventory, and assist with scheduling.
• Adhere to safety policies and promote a safe, respectful workplace.
• Manage budget and labor hours, and report issues promptly.
• Set and uphold elevated standards for themselves and team members.

Must be willing to relocate within a 50-mile radius of our market area.

• Eligible to work in the United States and 18 years of age or older
• 1-2 years working in a leadership role or experience leading a team, with a strong preference for coffee, food, and beverage
• Completed Blue Bottle Academy’s Barista training and validation program or will complete it within 90 days post-hire
• Existing Food Safety Certification required for the state you will be working in and for your specific role, or will obtain it within 30 days post-hire
• Familiarity with online collaboration and organization tools, including Google Docs
• A flexible schedule and are available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to smell and taste; you’re tasting and smelling coffee and food, helping ensure quality control for each cup and plate
• Ability to listen and speak; you’re listening and speaking with our guests to take and fill orders, and guide and create experiences.
• The role is performed in an environment that may involve exposure to environmental conditions, including elevated temperatures from food and beverage preparation equipment, and cooler temperatures in refrigerated spaces
