Job summary

Google's XR Audio Platform team seeks a Staff Software Engineer to own wakeword development for XR glasses and headsets in California. You will drive architecture, define metrics for audio quality, and partner with hardware and software teams to accelerate impact.

You will lead a cross-functional group, design low-power MCU audio capture features, and ship software aligned with Google's broader AR/VR goals while expanding capabilities across platforms and devices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience with real-time operating systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead Wakeword development for XR Glasses and Headsets, influencing current and next-generation design and architecture.
• Develop quantitative and qualitative metrics to track wakeword and audio quality and performance and drive measurement and optimizations.
• Lead a direct and cross-functional team of engineers in execution and delivery of their individual components.
• Design and build audio capture Microcontroller Unit (MCU) and framework features that enable low-power Augmented Reality (AR) glasses.
• Deliver software and technical support towards the larger organizational goals.
