Job summary

Responsibilities

• Ensures work is done properly and efficiently.
• Passes on to workers instructions received from supervisor and demonstrates proper work methods as needed.
• Ensures equipment, materials, tools and supplies are functional and available when needed.
• Ensures workers have enough work and are fully utilized.
• Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, and directions.
• Constructs storage/packing items (boxes, crates, pallets, skids) using wood and related materials.
• Performs spot checks for compliance with supervisor’s instructions on sequence, procedures, methods, deadlines.
• Maintains written records of production, work hours, costing, attendance; may use a computer; orients and trains new employees.
• Suggests performance awards and informs on potential issues.
• References applicable packing instructions and works from listed specs/drawings for crates and skids.
• Determines requirements for special jobs (materials, design of boxes/crates, bracing, etc.).
• Constructs containers, packing, labeling, and prepares items for shipment/storage.
• Operates handling equipment and ensures cleanup of work site.
