Overview:
The Lead Web Designer is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing web design strategy, execution, and quality. This role manages a team of designers and developers to create scalable, high-quality WordPress websites that align with brand vision and usability standards. The ideal candidate combines technical proficiency in modern WordPress workflows with strong visual design, leadership, and process management skills.

We seek a proactive leader fluent in Figma-based design systems, skilled in WordPress Block Editor development, and committed to enhancing design efficiency and product scalability.

Essential Duties

1. Team Leadership & Process Management

• Lead, mentor, and support a team of web and graphic designers, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely delivery of assets.
• Drive the evolution of scalable design workflows, ensuring cross-team alignment and best practice adoption.
• Foster team growth through feedback, design reviews, and skill development.

Design Execution & Systemization

• Oversee creation of responsive, user-friendly web designs using Figma.
• Translate Figma designs into functional, responsive WordPress sites with the Block Editor.
• Maintain component libraries and design systems within Figma for consistency and scalability.
• Ensure pixel-perfect implementation of designs using reusable blocks and custom patterns.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate with delivery teams, QA, and product teams to streamline handoffs and improve implementation fidelity.
• Prioritize design QA to identify and resolve inconsistencies and UX issues before launch.
• Incorporate feedback to iterate and improve design deliverables.
• Stay updated on WordPress, design tools, and UX/UI best practices.

Required Skills

• 8+ years in web and UX/UI design, with 3–5+ years in leadership roles.
• Expertise in Figma for layout, prototyping, and components.
• Deep proficiency with WordPress, especially in designing and building with the Block Editor (Gutenberg).
• Experience importing Figma layouts into WordPress using block patterns and themes.
• Strong understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD).
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of WordPress theme development and block-based templating.
• Experience with component systems or design tokens.
• Basic HTML/CSS skills for troubleshooting.
• Experience working in Agile or iterative environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Web Design, Graphic Design, HCI, or related field.
• Proven web design experience, leadership preferred.
• High school education or equivalent.
