Job summary

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Operator for our Water department. This role safely operates heavy equipment and leads crew on underground utility projects, with emphasis on laying water mains and reading grades/blueprints.

The position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity, with travel as needed. Valid driver’s license and ability to pass screenings are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years as Lead Operator laying water mains.
• Experience reading grades and blueprints.
• CDL license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, dozers, skid steers and other heavy equipment safely.
• Read grades, blueprints, and job specs for underground utilities.
• Lead crew operations and communicate progress and site conditions.
• Ensure safety, quality, and productivity on job sites.
