Job summary

The City of Victorville is seeking a Lead Water Distribution Operator to oversee field crews responsible for the water distribution system’s construction, maintenance, and operation. This lead role provides direction, ensures safety and quality, and serves as the field point of contact for contractors and customers.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and several years’ experience in water service installation and repair, with at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Qualifications

• Experience leading water service crews and coordinating field operations.
• Knowledge of water distribution systems, safety standards, and permit processes.
• Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize work, and provide technical guidance.

Responsibilities

• Lead water service crews in installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of distribution components.
• Plan daily activities, assign priorities, and coordinate materials and equipment.
• Ensure permits are obtained and work complies with codes and safety standards.
• Monitor job sites for safety, quality, and compliance with specifications.
• Operate heavy equipment and supervise field tasks such as drilling, tapping, and valve work.
• Provide on-the-job training and guidance to staff and coordinate with contractors and stakeholders.
• Record work activities using GIS/MUNIS and prepare basic reports.
• Participate in emergency response and on-call rotations.
