Job summary

East Los Angeles Dog and Cat Hospital in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Lead Veterinary Technician to mentor the technician and assistant team, oversee daily clinical workflow, and ensure high standards of patient care, safety, and client communication.

The role requires an active RVT license with 3+ years’ experience and leadership experience. This position offers a competitive hourly rate and comprehensive staff benefits in a fast-paced, supportive hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Technician with an active license and 3+ years of professional experience.
  • Exceptionally experienced non-licensed applicants may be considered, RVT preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and supervise technicians and assistants on the floor.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new clinical staff.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture.
  • Oversee patient monitoring, safety, and record management.
  • Coordinate tasks based on skill level and case urgency.
  • Ensure treatment plans and estimates are communicated and documented.
  • Oversee radiology, lab testing, IV catheter placement, fluids, and meds.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proper PPE.

This position supports veterinarians, mentors the technician and assistant team, oversees daily clinical workflow, and ensures patient care, safety, and client communication meets our high standards. The Lead Technician acts as a clinical leader on the floor while modeling professionalism, teamwork, and excellence in patient care.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a mentor and resource for technicians and assistants.
  • Assistwith onboarding and training of new clinical staff.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture.
  • Maintainhigh standardsfor patient monitoring, comfort, and safety.
  • Assign tasks to technicians and assistants based on skill level and case urgency.
  • Ensure treatment plans and estimates areproperly communicatedand documented.
  • Oversee radiology, laboratory testing, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and medication administration.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety, anesthesia monitoring, infection control, and controlled substance protocols.
  • PromoteOSHAprinciplesand proper PPE use.
  • Maintainaccuratemedical records and documentation.
  • Assistwith difficult or high-stress client interactions as needed.
  • Ensure client education and follow-up instructions areaccurateand complete.
  • Management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
  • Surgical preparation and assistance includinganesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications
  • A Registered Veterinary Technician with an active license, 3+ years professional experience.
    • Exceptionally experienced non-licensed applicants will be considered for this role, but RVT status is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong technical skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and supportive in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture, with additional skills in dental radiography being a plus.
  • Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $20 - $25/hr+ depending on level of experience and license status.
