Job summary

EPM Scientific is seeking a Veterinary Training Program Director / Lead Veterinary Surgeon to oversee the strategic development and daily operations of a national surgical education program. You will serve as the lead instructor and mentor a team of veterinary professionals to deliver advanced training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of a veterinary surgical training program.
  • Manage and develop a team of veterinary professionals, ensuring high standards of patient care and instructional excellence.
  • Design and enhance educational curriculum and training initiatives.
  • Deliver hands-on surgical training and mentorship to licensed veterinarians.
  • Serve as the primary instructor for high-volume spay and neuter surgical procedures.
  • Oversee perioperative patient care, including pre-operative evaluation, anesthesia considerations, post-operative recovery, and complication management.
  • Provide instruction on: Surgical candidate evaluation, Anesthesia protocols and patient monitoring, Surgical preparation and sterile technique, High-volume, high-quality surgical methods, Soft tissue surgical procedures, Post-operative care and pain management, Community animal population management programs.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with animal shelters, rescue organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead training and professional development initiatives for veterinary staff.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts across clinical and educational operations.

Position Summary

The Veterinary Training Program Director will oversee both the strategic development and day-to-day operations of a veterinary surgical training program. This individual will serve as the lead surgical instructor while managing a team of veterinary professionals dedicated to delivering advanced surgical education.

The role combines program leadership, clinical instruction, team development, and stakeholder engagement with animal welfare organizations. This is a highly visible position offering the opportunity to shape educational programming and mentor veterinary professionals nationwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of a veterinary surgical training program.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent).
  • Eligible for veterinary licensure within the state of employment.
  • DEA registration or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Significant experience performing high-volume spay and neuter surgeries.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and coach veterinary professionals.
  • Strong leadership and people management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Strong organizational and program management capabilities.
  • Ability to work onsite full-time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in shelter medicine.
  • Prior veterinary clinical teaching or training experience.
  • Experience developing educational programs or curricula.
  • Familiarity with spectrum-of-care veterinary principles.
