Lead Utility Protection and Control Technician

Overview

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is seeking a Lead Utility Protection and Control Technician. This role involves remote work, travel up to 3 weeks at a time, variable hours including nights & weekends, primarily in the Northeast and Northeastern Midwest. A company vehicle is provided for both business and personal use.

The annual salary range is approximately $105,000 to $168,000, plus per diem and eligibility for premium overtime pay. Salary depends on skills, experience, and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Oversee technical operations and documentation, including work plans, isolation plans, and test plans.
• Perform comprehensive testing and final checkout to ensure safety and reliability.
• Identify and correct design or installation errors to protect personnel and equipment.
• Work on energized electrical equipment for reliability upgrades.
• Develop and implement isolation procedures for equipment removal.
• Communicate technical information effectively to various audiences.
• Assist with testing of substation devices and equipment.

Qualifications

Basic

• 7+ years of utility substation relay testing experience or 4+ years with relevant education/military background.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Reside within the U.S. and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Pass background and drug screenings.

Preferred

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or military experience.
• Leadership or mentorship experience.
• 10+ years of electrical testing experience in utilities.
• Transmission substation relay testing experience.
• Level 3 or 4 NETA or NICET certification.
• Experience with power distribution equipment.

Skills

• Knowledge of electrical safety practices.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and protection schemes.
• Experience with relay testing and communication software.
• Understanding of protective relays and power meters.
