Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Utility Plant Operator 2 at Polk Center to oversee the central steam generating plant and lead shift staff. You will ensure reliable steam production and safe working conditions while monitoring equipment and adjusting systems.

Responsibilities include guiding boiler firing, making adjustments to pumps and boilers, testing water chemistry, and responding to emergencies. On-site, full-time role with rotating shifts and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 or equivalent experience in operation, maintenance, or repair of utility plant systems.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience including six months in related work.

Responsibilities

• Lead coordination of firing procedures for coal and natural gas boilers and direct daily actions of plant staff.
• Adjust pumps, boilers, compressors, and related systems to maintain efficiency.
• Monitor gauges and meters; maintain required temperatures, pressures, and water levels.
• Test boiler water and apply chemicals to maintain control limits.
• Respond to emergencies, document incidents, and notify staff as needed.
• Operate ash removal systems and assist with cleaning to keep a safe area.
