Job summary

Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, GA, seeks an experienced golf course operations professional to support management in daily maintenance. You will serve as the primary pesticide applicator and lead fertilizer applications while balancing risk and course quality to ensure a playable, well-maintained course for Members.

Role emphasizes supervising irrigation and water management, assisting with turfgrass programs, and coaching crew members on procedures.

Qualifications

• Turfgrass management training and education.
• Two to four years relevant working experience on a golf course.
• Minimum two-year certificate from an accredited Turfgrass Management program or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and completion of Club’s internal motor vehicle training program.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist golf course crew with daily operations and maintenance.
• Lead pesticide and fertilizer applications and balance risks with course quality.
• Support irrigation construction, repair, and water management efforts.
• Coach crew members on responsibilities and proper work procedures.
• Contribute to tissue sample analysis data entry and reporting.
• Support Senior Director, Agronomy and Assistant Superintendent in maintaining health and playability of the course.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field

Minimum two-year certificate from an accredited Turfgrass Management program

High school diploma or equivalent

Two to four years relevant working experience on a golf course

Job description

Job Responsibilities

Supports management staff in assisting the golf course crew with daily operations. Serves as the primary pesticide applicator and provides leadership in fertilizer applications. Focuses on maintaining the big picture and takes necessary actions to balance risk and reward, ensuring successful outcomes. Supports management staff with pesticide and fertilizer applications. Aids in bent watch programs and water management theories. Supports daily maintenance operations by assisting, training, and coaching crew members on job responsibilities and proper work procedures. Focus on course scout program and relays information to management staff. Exercises sound judgment by balancing operational risks with course quality and maintenance objectives. Supports facility R & M and equipment clean up. Helps with tissue sample analysis data entry. Supports the Senior Director, Agronomy, and Assistants Superintendent in maintaining a healthy, well-groomed, enjoyable, and playable golf course for Members. Maintain proficient knowledge of required technical specialties. Seek methods to reduce organizational liabilities and improve the quality of maintenance services being provided. Ensures effective running of processes, programs, and projects. Performs other duties which are deemed by management to be an important part of the job.

Physical Demands

Physical demands are outlined immediately below. Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties. Constantly required to use arms, hands, and fingers to handle or lift items up to 50 pounds. Constantly required to stand, walk, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms and/or drive a golf cart. Use vision to perform activity such as but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures, visual inspection involving property maintenance, hazards, and safety violations, and/or operation of machines (including inspection). Projected Work Schedule

Normal work hours are 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
