Job summary

The Department of the Navy seeks a Meteorologist for the Forecast Operations division to issue time-critical tropical cyclone warnings. You will synthesize data from satellites, radar and NWP models to forecast track, intensity and structure, and you will serve as the on-shift forecast lead for a four-person watch team.

You must operate specialized meteorological systems (ATCF, AWIPS) and develop SOPs, while ensuring continuous 24x7 operations and thorough post-storm analyses.

Qualifications

• Experience as on-shift forecast lead or authoritative forecaster producing time-critical tropical cyclone warnings.
• Experience operating meteorological systems (ATCF, AWIPS) to maintain 24/7 dataflow.
• Experience post-storm reanalysis, reports, and mentoring forecasters.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a meteorologist in the Forecast Operations division, issuing TC warnings.
• Synthesize satellite, radar, and NWP guidance to forecast TC track, intensity, and structure.
• Act as on-shift forecast lead for a 4-person joint service watch team.
• Maintain situational awareness of DoD installations and civilian interests.
• Operate ATCF, AWIPS, and satellite display software; develop SOPs and dataflow docs.
• Troubleshoot meteorological systems to ensure 24x7 operations.
• Conduct detailed annual post-storm analysis of TC activity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
