Job summary

Lewis Services is seeking a Crew Leader to oversee utility vegetation management crews, ensuring safe tree trimming, line clearance, and crew leadership across field operations. You will supervise daily tasks, coach staff, and enforce safety protocols while maintaining strong relationships with customers and utility representatives.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in tree crews or utility vegetation work, knowledge of ANSI Z133 and A300, and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years in a tree crew or utility vegetation management.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements and A300 Pruning Standards.
• Proficient in identifying poisonous plants.
• Proficient in electrical circuit basics and interpreting circuit maps.
• Advanced in tree ascent/descent using ropes and safety saddle; aerial lift ops.
• Must have CDL as needed and medical certification.
• CPR and First Aid certified (provided by Lewis).
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily tree crew operations and ensure safe, efficient work practices.
• Plan and assign tasks based on crew skills and job requirements.
• Monitor crew performance, including on new hires, for training and promotions.
• Maintain crew contact information and report availability or fitness-for-duty concerns.
• Conduct field training and job briefings to ensure crew readiness.
• Enforce safety standards and company policies; report unsafe conditions immediately.
• Identify jobsite hazards and implement safeguards such as barriers and signs.
• Make decisions regarding weather-related work slowdowns for safety.
• Perform and direct tree trimming, removal, and clearance near energized lines.
• Operate and supervise use of trucks, chippers, aerial lifts, and saws.
• Interpret work orders, utility drawings, and line voltage symbols.
• Maintain clean, organized vehicles and job sites; document incidents and outcomes.
• Promote positive relationships with customers, utilities, and contractors.
• Travel frequently, including overnight stays, as required.
