Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled engineering technician to supervise field crews on transportation projects across Richland area. The role emphasizes plan interpretation, inspections, sampling and testing, and accurate recording of quantities.

You will work under the Resident Construction Engineer, ensure safety compliance, maintain documentation, and support project closeout activities through final measurement and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
• Ability to supervise technicians and ensure safety compliance.
• Experience in inspections and field testing of construction materials.

Responsibilities

• Supervise technicians on assigned projects and mentor staff.
• Inspect and document field activities, ensure compliance with plans.
• Conduct sampling and testing of construction materials.
• Maintain records, wage interviews, and project documentation.
• Perform survey duties to verify line and grade using levels, total station, and GPS.
• Prepare monthly and final estimates and plans for payment.
• Review change orders and assist RCE with project closeout.
