Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Minneapolis invites a seasoned transmission design engineer to lead projects from 69kV to 500kV. You will design, review, and document specs, while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with clients to meet NESC, IEC, and IEEE standards.

This role requires ABET-accredited BS and 12+ years of experience, with strong proficiency in PLS-CADD and a track record of delivering calculations and designs compliant with client requirements. Hybrid work option included.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of transmission design experience.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
  • Experience preparing scopes, conceptual designs, and calculations.
  • Experience with 69kV–500kV transmission lines.
  • Knowledge of NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, ANSI.
  • Experience reviewing designs by others.

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.

Responsibilities May Include The Following
  • Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
  • Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
  • Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
  • Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.

Essential Skills And Experience
  • BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 12 or more years of transmission design experience.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
  • Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
  • Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 500kV.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
  • PE license
  • PMP certification

  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range

$134,546 - $205,557
