Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks an experienced transmission design professional for a hybrid role requiring in-office work 3 days per week. Candidates should have a BS in engineering from an ABET-accredited program and extensive experience with 69kV–500kV projects, including PLS-CADD proficiency and client-facing coordination.

Ideal applicants will have strong familiarity with NESC, IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards, and prior involvement in scope development, design basis, equipment selection, and detailed

Responsibilities
  • Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
  • Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
  • Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
  • Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 12 years of transmission design experience.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
  • Experience in preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, selection of equipment and materials, and preparation and assembly of calculations and specifications.
  • Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 500kV.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
Valued But Not Required Skills and Experience
  • PE license
  • PMP certification

  • Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Direct automation and process‑improvement work, such as how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
  • Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs; valued but not required.
  • Value additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI‑enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range

$134,546 – $205,557
