Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior transmission design engineer for hybrid work with in-office days. The role focuses on designing high‑voltage transmission lines (69kV–500kV), coordinating client requirements, and mentoring staff.

You will deliver detailed calculations, drawings, and reports, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and company processes. Ideal candidates bring ABET‑accredited engineering degrees, 12+ years of experience, and strong PLS‑CADD skills.

Qualifications

• BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• 12+ years of transmission design experience.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
• Experience developing scopes of work, conceptual designs, design basis, equipment/material selection, and calculations/specifications.
• Experience with transmission lines 69kV–500kV and client interaction.
• Knowledge of NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, ANSI standards.
• Experience reviewing design drawings produced by others.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include the following:

• Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
• Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
• Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
• Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Qualifications

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.

Essential skills and experience:

• BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• 12 or more years of transmission design experience.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
• Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
• Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 500kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
• Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• PE license
• PMP certification
• Construction experience
• Familiarity with ArcGIS

Compensation Range

$134,546 - $205,557
