Job Description

We are seeking a Lead Transmission Line Engineer who will manage a collaborative and dynamic team working in a fast-paced environment, solving challenging problems involved with electric transmission. The successful candidate will serve as a Lead Engineer and Project Manager on electric transmission line design projects of overhead and underground systems for major utilities. The candidate will apply standards such as NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC in designing projects from 34.5 kV to 500 kV.

Responsibilities include directing engineers in performing analyses, PLS-CADD modeling, structure calculations, design, drafting, and procurement across project phases.

This role offers a fast-paced, diverse work environment with flexible hours, and opportunities for career development and growth.

The position is senior leadership, focusing on client relations, staff management, proposal development, project execution, and business growth. The candidate will manage a team, set clear expectations, motivate, coach, mentor, and foster a positive team culture.

Job Functions

  • Manage multiple design teams across various projects and clients
  • Develop engineering talent through training and coaching
  • Supervise staff, approve timesheets, conduct performance reviews
  • Participate in leadership of the Transmission Line Section
  • Create responses to RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, including proposals and scope definitions
  • Foster creative problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Delegate tasks, forecast workload, support recruiting
  • Ensure quality control in deliverables
  • Build and maintain client relationships for business growth
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget with support from PMO

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission design (8+ with Master’s)
  • Expertise in PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
  • Effective team player and independent worker
  • Strong communication skills for client interactions
  • Business acumen and project performance understanding
  • Onsite work and periodic travel may be required
  • Mentoring skills for staff development

Desired Experience:

  • 2+ years supervising staff
  • M.S. in Structural Engineering
  • Experience with TOWER, EIT or PE certification
  • Knowledge of LPILE, FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS

Work Location: Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, or Walled Lake, MI. In-person or hybrid reporting expected.
