Job summary

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking a transportation design engineer to lead and assist in the development of traffic signal designs, ITS, and broadband fiber projects in North Carolina. You will work on NCDOT roadway/highway and municipal streets, ensuring adherence to NCDOT standards and MUTCD protocols.

The role requires a BSCE or BSCET, 5+ years of experience, familiarity with Microstation/Open Roads/Geopack, and a NC PE license or ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• BSCE or BSCET required.
• 5+ years of progressive design experience in transportation design.
• PE license in NC or ability to obtain within six months of hire; registration in other states is favorable.
• NCDOT & VDOT design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist in the development of traffic design projects including ITS and broadband fiber designs.
• Work on NCDOT roadway/highway projects as well as municipal streets and pedestrian facilities.
• Thorough knowledge of NCDOT traffic signal design standards and MUTCD protocols.
• Perform field investigations, construction inspections, and traffic signal equipment inventories.
• Collaborate with clients and public agencies; occasionally participate in public meetings and presentations.
