Job summary

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is seeking a Lead Attorney to advance trademark litigation and policy work. You will defend Director and TTAB decisions, file amicus briefs, and coordinate with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Justice on national IP matters.

You’ll manage all aspects of litigations and appeals, advise senior management on trademark policy, clearance, and enforcement, and represent the Agency in court and before appellate bodies where needed.

Qualifications

• Must meet OPM qualification requirements for the advertised position.
• Minimum four years of professional law experience post-J.D. in Trademark litigation.
• Specialized experience includes drafting pleadings and legal briefs in trademark law.
• Active Bar membership in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Defend Director and TTAB decisions in federal courts and appeals.
• Prepare and file amicus briefs on trademark law issues.
• Coordinate with Commerce and Justice to assist the Solicitor General before the Supreme Court.
• Manage all aspects of litigations and appeals, including strategy, motions, and trials.
• Provide legal and policy advice on trademark, copyright, ethics and disciplinary matters.
