Job summary

U.S. Xpress in Duncan, SC is seeking a Lead Tractor Technician to lead the repair and maintenance of tractors, trailers, and engines at the USX terminal. This role requires strong diagnostic, safety leadership, and hands-on mechanical skills.

You will supervise a team of technicians, ensure safe work practices, and perform complex disassembly/assembly, tuning, and tests with OEM diagnostics. A high school diploma and 5 years of diesel experience are required; a diesel tech diploma can substitute

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or demonstrated experience.
• Minimum of 5 years progressive experience as a diesel mechanic.
• Minimum of 5 years trailer repair and maintenance experience.
• A Technical Diploma from a Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of required experience.
• Valid driver’s license is essential.

Responsibilities

• Tests, services, and repairs tractors, trailers, engines, and related components; leads other technicians.
• Ensure safety practices among technicians under leadership.
• Test and repair electrical systems (lighting, instrumentation, ignition, electronic fuel injection).
• Disassemble and assemble equipment; change tires and wheel assemblies.
• Discuss problems with technicians; use test equipment; test driver vehicles.
• Perform minor body and trim repairs; replace worn parts and reassemble with testing.
• Tune engines using electronic equipment and adjust carburetors for smoother running.
• Diagnose, repair, and replace engine management/fuel injection components.
