Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Design Release Engineer for Active Thermal Hardware to lead design, development, validation, and release of thermal management components and subsystems such as heat exchangers, cooling fans, and sensors. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Thermal Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of design and release experience for components or subsystems.
  • Strong knowledge of thermal systems, HVAC, and fluid handling.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools and engineering analyses.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20–25%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product development activities for thermal components and subsystems.
  • Develop and release components to meet requirements, SOR, CTS, and SSTS.
  • Perform design studies, peer reviews, and alternative analyses.
  • Define ICD requirements and coordinate interfaces.
  • Manage supplier relationships and ensure timely deliverables.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities with multiple teams.
  • Support PDT meetings and peer reviews.
  • Validate released components and establish validation plans.
  • Validate designs using FEA, CFD, modal analyses, and virtual builds.
  • Ensure compliance with GM standards and program imperatives.
  • Lead problem solving for production and launch issues.
  • Capture lessons learned for future designs.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and test programs.
