Responsabilités

• Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities to resolve serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
• Manage receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples, including ordering, receiving, inspecting, and preparing reagents.
• Maintain exceptional and rare donor products.
• Perform and interpret independent basic and complex donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete required quality control as appropriate to state and federal regulations.
• Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution, and resolve the problem or refer it to the appropriate level.
• Assume lead responsibilities to maintain, edit and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping.
• Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records.
• Perform maintenance repair and validation of laboratory equipment and software maintenance.
• Perform internal staff training, competency reviews, and external customer education.

The Lead Technologist in the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory provides daily lead functions, performs basic and advanced donor and patient tests, interprets results to determine donor-recipient compatibility, and resolves compatibility problems. The role includes providing complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services, performing automated and manual test procedures on blood samples, and supporting volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Manage receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples, including ordering, receiving, inspecting, and preparing reagents associated with donor product inventory.
• Maintain exceptional and rare donor products.
• Perform and interpret independent basic and complex donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete required quality control as appropriate to state and federal regulations.
• Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution, and resolve the problem or refer it to the appropriate level.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry required.
• MT(ASCP) licensure if required by state.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
• MLT (ASCP) certification with 5 years of blood banking experience can be substituted.
• Good written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
• Must be able to work on a team.
• BB(ASCP) equivalent certification preferred.
